January 2006Causeway Restoration Project The first phase of the Causeway Restoration Project is almost complete. During the second phase, trees and additional landscaping will be added. You can help by not parking on the causeway. Sod and grass seed need time to become established, and sprinkler heads are expensive to replace. Causeway Vandalism During the past several months there have been several incidents of vandalism to the causeway and security gates. The most recent incidents involve someone in a truck with large tires, “spinning out” and destroying new sod and sprinklers. The expenses incurred as a result of these incidents are ones each homeowner shares. As a result, a $500.00 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the person(s) responsible for any acts of vandalism within Lakewood. If you see anything suspicious, please note the vehicle color and, if possible, the tag number. You can contact any board member with information. All reports will be confidential. This problem is one we must all work together to remedy. Roadway Clean-Up Leaves collecting on the roads cause deterioration of the asphalt. Please remember to keep the roads and drains clear of debris. Trash Pick-Up Household trash pick-up is on Tuesday and Friday. Yard trash pick-up is on Wednesday. We are aware there are some problems with the trash pick-up service and have contacted Florida Refuse. If you have a problem with your pick-up service, please call Florida Refuse at 665-1489 the morning after the scheduled pick-up day. As residents complain, Florida Refuse is keeping a record of the problems in order to resolve the issues. Annual Association Due Assessments 2006 Annual Association Due Assessment statements will be mailed at the end of this month. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Security Gate Keys for the security gates are no longer available. If your gate opener seems weak, you can replace the batteries. Walgreens and CVS have replacement batteries. If you are hosting a special event and require the gates be left open later in the evening, please contact Bill Watson AT LEAST one day in advance. Causeway Bridge Sitting on the causeway bridge is dangerous and a liability to the entire Lakewood Community. Horseplay often leads to accidents. Please take time to discourage people from “hanging out” at the bridge. Help Wanted Do you have experience with sprinkler repair? Do you have time to volunteer? Lakewood needs someone willing to help keep the sprinklers on the causeway in working order. Please contact Bill Watson if you are able to assist with this task. On Saturday, February 25th, the board is asking residents to help clean-up and plant trees on the causeway. Anyone able to help should plan on meeting at the gates at 9:30 a.m. How long the project will take depends on how many hands we have helping. Please, let’s work together to make Lakewood more attractive. *Although NOT necessary, please bring shovels and trimmers if you have them. Gloves are also recommended. Yard Lamps Please take a moment to check that your yard lamp is working. Well lighted streets help deter crime and are safer for our residents who walk at night or early in the morning. Web Page Visit our Lakewood Community web page at www.lakewoodcommunity.com . In it you will find pictures of Trick or Treaters and Christmas merriment. It also contains neighborhood news and information. Many thanks to Jeff Latimer for its’ creation. |
